THE ENVIRONMENT PROGRAMME

Sustainable Development in Eastern Africa

The main objectives of the Environment Program are:-

To support forward-looking sustainable regional development by protecting the natural resources. This is realised by supporting cooperation and synergies among organizations; strengthening the role of environmental organizations (NGOs, state organizations, academia) as stakeholders in the decision making process; strengthening their knowledge in the field of environment; strengthening their own institution building processes through information exchange, training and visiting programs, and conferences.

To strengthen the individual partner organizations by supporting them financially, through training and information dissemination to implement their projects. This includes implementation of the national policy, awareness building on solid waste management, protection of the bio-diversity, pollution of the environment, development of school environmental protection clubs, establishment of resources centres for information and documentation.

The Environment Forum is the programme's flagship in Kenya, Ethiopia and Somaliland with successful monthly public debates on Water, energy, health, Biodiversity, trade, agriculture and environmental governance issues. Under the "Greening of Society toward sustainable development", the Foundation partners with environmental NGOs like the Green Belt Movement, African Energy Policy Research Network (AFREPREN), the Environment Protection Authority of the City Administration of Addis Ababa (EPA), the Forum for Environment (FFE Ethiopia), the Institute for Sustainable Development (ISD Ethiopia), Panos Ethiopia, the Ministry for Pastoral Development and Environment (MPDE-Somaliland), Nagaad Umbrella Organisation, Candle liight for Health and Environment (CLHE-Somaliland) and Agricultural development Organisation (ADO-Somaliland).
