The Green Belt Movement is a grassroot non-governmental
organization based in Kenya. It focuses on environmental conservation
and community development and seeks to eventually improve livelihoods
and alleviate poverty. To achieve its objectives, GBM conducts civic
and environmental education seminars and plants trees on public
lands with local communities. It also carries out advocacy activities
such as mass action events to protest degradation of the environment,
destruction of forests, land grabbing and violation of human rights.
